Sun Cluster on VirtualBox

Post by agath »

I tried to configure two node Solaris Cluster 3.3 on Solaris 10 guests in VirtualBox. Everything was fine until i added the quorum device. Exactly when adding it the system panic'd with messages like "cluster lost operational quorum" "Issuing NULL preempt on quorum device failed" "pm_tick delay of 226518361 ms exceeds 5050 ms" etc. I don't have any issues whatsoever when I use a quorum server instead of quorum disk. Any idea why the shared disk is giving this problem for quorum? I believe virtualbox does support shared disk with the shareable option, so I should not have any issues using that as a quorum device. Pls help

Is there no one who tried Solaris Cluster on Virtual Box with shared disk as quorum device?

Hello I'm triying, but getting this messages just before it node 1 gets aborted
Oct 10 21:38:33 konoha Cluster.CCR: [ID 914260 daemon.warning] Failed to retrieve global fencing status from the global name server
Oct 10 21:38:33 konoha last message repeated 1 time
Oct 10 21:38:33 konoha Cluster.CCR: [ID 485680 daemon.warning] reservation warning(node_join) - Unable to lookup local_only flag for device dsk/d1.
Oct 10 21:38:33 konoha Cluster.CCR: [ID 485680 daemon.warning] reservation warning(node_join) - Unable to lookup local_only flag for device dsk/d2.b

The d2 is a disc using the shareable option in vbox.... :(

I've written up a procedure for this on my personal web. It includes a two node cluster, shared storage, and a quorum disk. Feel free to have a look and let me know how it works out.
The URL is http://webcave.us/doku.php?id=prophead:cluster_in_a_box.
