I am running CentOS 5.2 as a guest in a Windows 7 host. I've used this combination before at a previous employer and I was very happy with VirtualBox. However, on my newly configured machine I am unable to access USB disks, which is a show-stopper problem for me.
I think that everything is installed correctly, including the guest additions for Linux. The USB disks show up in the list of devices, and when I select one of them their state changes to "Captured". However, no checkmark appears next to the device in the USB device list, and the disks are not automounted and I cannot find a way to mount them. Back on the Windows host the devices are still available, which seems odd if the Linux OS has successfully captured them. It I try selecting one of them again I get an error dialog that says that the device is busy with a previous request.
I should mention that other non-disk USB devices such as the webcam can be selected successfully. I should also mention that I have added a blank filter for USB devices. I have tried dozens of combinations of rebooting and unplugging/plugging USB disks.
I have spent many hours on the internet reading about the myriad of problems that people have with USB disks and VirtualBox. Most of the solutions seem to apply to specific host/guest combinations, and none of them seem to fit my situation. Thanks in advance to any helpful advice.

Re: USB disks unavailable
Hello,
I have posted a similar problem here http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... er#p192898.
Look if it traces something in the syslog. I cannot help anymore, but in case if other usb devices work, it could be a bug.
Regards
