I have a Win7-64 host and an old USB device which is no longer supported by Win7. So I created a WinXP guest, hoping that I could install the device driver there and continue using the device in the guest. I didn't get this setup to work.
Some details:
- Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-extpack installed
- Device drivers on guest installed
- Vbox USB filter created as follows: Filtername=Creative/VendorID=041e/ProductID=4101/Revision=0001
- Win7 device mgr says: Hardware-ID=USB\VID_041E&PID_04101&REV_0001 and USB\VID_041E&PID_4101
- Leaving revision empty doesn't help
- Listing of "vboxmanage list usbhost" shows 2 devices: a mouse and keyboard, both VendorId 046d. 041e is missing.
Win7 recognizes the USB device, but fails getting it to work. This is expected because there is no Win7 driver for this device.
Am I trying something impossible?
