Windows xp won't play mp3 files

Greetings,
For some reason WinXP (on Linux host) won't play mp3 files. I've tried with different players (Widows Media and Winamp), but the same thing.
When I hit the play button nothing starts, however, it appears that a song is running, only not second by second but 2,6,9,12,14,16,22 and so on.
The same thing happens with video files (mp4) - with no sounds at all.
Any ideas?
Regards

"Does not work" does not help.
Do you really expect help?
If yes, then post Infos. So is nothing to say instead of you are doing something wrong.
Host, Guest (SP, Nlite?), exact and full Sound Configuration, VBOX Version, used Players, Logfile.
That are minimal infos to provide.

Sorry about that.
Host: Suse Linux Enerprise Desktop 11 SP1
Guest: Windows XP ultimate.
VBOX Version: 4.0.8 r 71778 (latest, but had the same problem with a version before that)
Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - SigmaTel Codec
Legacy Audio Drivers.
What puzzles me is that sound actually works (I can hear default Windows sounds).
Also, when I had installed WinXP in a way that a virtual hard disk was in /root directory everything was fine, but due to a lack of space I've reinstalled it with a hard disk placed on /home directory. Then is when the problems started.
Used Players:
Winamp v5.61,
Widnows Media Player 10.00.00.4040
VLC (for mp4 files)
I've also tried installing codecs (it worked last time): K-lite_Codec_Pack_710_Full
I'm not sure how to get log files, since nothing pops up when I'm trying to play mp3 files.
Hope this time, I gave you enough informations.
thanks

"Windows XP Ultimate" is an illegal crack of XP. We can't support your use of it. And anyway since we don't know what's in it we couldn't support you even if we wanted to.

All I can say is that it's probably a player setting. Make sure you have the right device set in the software. In addition, using codec packs can cause major issues with media playback. I dislike them. K-lite is one of such packs that when installed correctly, it works, but if you have no idea, you break more than you fix. FFDshow is the only safe way to go.
Either way, you have a pirated version as noted above. As of that, I'm locking this thread.
