Hi,
On a linux host (Ubuntu 64 Bit 10.4, Lucid) with VT-Extensions enabled, an Alternate Setup for Ubuntu 64-Bit 11.4 fails when it trys to install "linux-generic". Its the same with 64-Bit 10.4 Server.
The processor is a Pentium-D, 64 Bit, with VT-Extensions, enabled in the bios. Existing 32-Bit Guests are Booting with VT acceleration. So it seems to me, that it works.
I'd like to give more details on the failure, but I cannot acces to the guest log, because the command CTRL+ALT+F2 is not able to open the consele within the guest, just starts the console on the host.
Bye and thanks for helpfully advices!

Use Host+F2 to enter a TTY in the Guest. If VT-x wouldn't work, you would get an error before you can even boot the VM. The log would certainly help.

Dude, you need to enable the Visaulization in your BIOS!!! If your mainboard doesn't support, then of course cannot. Worst, some mainboard doesnt hv this option!!!
---
Why I know all this? Bcoz I faced the same problem with my Windows 7 x64 with Ubantu Guest x64.
And got it figured out that, my mainboard default visualization was set to disable. Once I turned it on. It's all SMOOTH!

Dude!! Learn to read man. He clearly stated that it's enabled in the BIOS and VM settings.Nymphomaniac wrote:Dude, you need to enable the Visaulization in your BIOS!!! If your mainboard doesn't support, then of course cannot. Worst, some mainboard doesnt hv this option!!!

What are you missing there? Need glasses, or did you speedread too fast and missed the obvious?Sisyphos wrote:The processor is a Pentium-D, 64 Bit, with VT-Extensions, enabled in the bios. Existing 32-Bit Guests are Booting with VT acceleration. So it seems to me, that it works.
Did you get the same, or did you actually get the message I'm talking about? From the TS, I can make out that VT-x is working as it should, he doesn't get an error that he's trying to run a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit system, just a black screen after it loaded some.
Logs are important.
