WinDbg With VBox4.0.4

Post by vbqwejst »

I am trying to kernel debug a Windows XP SP2 guest in Vbox 4.0.4. I installed Windbg (together with the SP2 symbol files) in my host machine and connected it to the guest's com port using a named pipe. The connection was successfully made. But it was EXTREMELY slow (I was using baud rate 115200, not sure if this is that slow). The windows guest took many many minutes just to progress to the startup welcome screen. That was too slow to be of any use.

I know VirtualKD is a patch of the VM offering another faster option. But it doesn't explain how to use it with Vbox 4.0.4. It looks more like written for vmware.

Does anyone ever tried to use Windbg to debug a wndows guest (using COM1 port or VirtualKD)? What steps are required?
