USB devices not seen in VB 4.0.8r71778
natty ubuntu 11.04
This is a new installation of VB and WinXp pro.
FIle-prefs-extensions show the Oracle VM VB Extension pack is installed. It is ticked in pale green as active. It is the same version as VB above.
My user name is in the vboxusers group.
The permissions in /etc/init.d/vboxdrv are correct at 750.
# Create the /dev/vboxusb directory if the host supports that method
# of USB access. The USB code checks for the existance of that path.
if grep -q usb_device /proc/devices; then
mkdir -p -m 0750 /dev/vboxusb 2>/dev/null
chown root:vboxusers /dev/vboxusb 2>/dev/null

I have installed WinXp pro. It loads. No printers or other usb devices are showing in VB's devices -usb or in windows printers and faxes. It is not greyout out. it just shows nothing in the way of usb connections.
I would like some help to get the usb devices to work.
Robin

The same thing on CentOS 5.6 amd64 - USB devices NOT WORKING!!! Not working with nor 4.0.4, 4.0.6, 4.0.8 VirtualBox Extension Pack and according guest additions
Downgrade to 4.0.6 - and all guests working OK.
P.S. Install by this manual http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Virtualization/VirtualBox

If a Linux VBox host is not finding USB devices, you might like to try this as root:
cd /etc/udev/rules.d
mv 10-vboxdrv.rules 80-vboxdrv.rules
then restart linux
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My problem is that I am unable to see USB drives in my VBox VM WinXP guest.
Problem started when I removed Novell Zenworks Adaptive Agent11 from my WinXP vm, (fr performance reasons) and I got BSOD Error 0x7b.
I repaired the WinXP vm by booting from a Windows XP iso, and it now (mostly) works. Except - USB devices are not detected by WinXP. WinXP Device Manager does not show a USB Root Hub, and there is an error code 39 associated with the 2 Host Controller entries. Uninstalling the two USB Host Controller entries, and letting Windows recreate them, does not help.
I know it is a problem with this particular WinXP vdi, as USB devices are detected correctly by my Linux host (SLED11 SP1), VBox manager (4.0.
, and another testWinXP vdi I had created.
cd /etc/udev/rules.d
mv 10-vboxdrv.rules 80-vboxdrv.rules
then restart linux
