Problems with EFI

Post by cfhay »

Hello!

I wanted to experiment a bit with EFI, without luck.

I took a Gentoo 64 installer cd, tried to start the efi binary, but the guest just froze.

Turned off EFI, installed a Gentoo the normal way. Partitioned the virtual disk with GPT, made two partitions (EFI and data), created FAT32 on EFI. Installed elilo. It created the files on the FAT32.

I turned EFI back, then typed:

Code: Select all

fs0:
cd EFI
cd gentoo
elilo.efi
This appeared on the screen:

Code: Select all

ELILO v3.12 for EFI/x86_64
..
Then the guest hangs.

Also somehow the bootup process from starting the guest till getting an EFI shell is very slow, takes about a minute.

Thanks for report. elilo indeed wasn't investigated enough, probably because grub was enough to get intermediate milestone (to launch boot Linux with EFI) and the problems with elilo don't like related to main target (Mac Server guest boot).
