Cannot get IP address

Post by topher83 »

Hi Y'all

I have two clients installed
Windows Server 2003 - DC with DHCP configured and IP address of 192.168.1.1 (Name server01)
Windows XP

Both clients have the network set to an internal network called inet

The DHCP has a scope of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (Subnet 255.255.255.0) although I have tried a few various scopes

If I set the IP address of the client to 192.168.1.2 I can ping 192.168.1.1 or server01 and I get results indicating that the client can see the server and resolve the host name

However when I set the IP address of the client to automatic it wont get an IP and gets the following error -

"An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

Im assuming the virtual network of Vbox doesn't filter \ restrict DHCP requests, Any advise anyone

Thanks

What is in the Server DHCP logs? Check your DHCP config, because something isn't working. And don't make your scope the entire range, your server needs an address too, so let it start at .2 at the very least ;).

This machine cannot reach its directory service enterprise and it has encountered another DHCP service on the network belonging to a directory service enterprise on which the local machine is not authorized.

Some unexpected network error occurred.

Realising that this is more of a windows error\configuration than a vbox issue but any help is appreciated
