Mic input to Windows guest causes Virtualbox hang

Post by scjohnson »

I am running into a Virtualbox hang I'm hoping I can get some insight into here. The details are:

Host OS: Ubuntu 11.04, but had the same problem with 10.10.
VirtualBox 4.0.4_OSE r70112
Audio configuration: "ALSA Audio Driver"/"Intel HD Audio", which seems to be the only combination that works for sound.
Guest OS: Windows7, 64 bit
I'm using the standard input/output plus for the audio and mic and am attempting to use Rosetta Stone.

The audio output works (though is sometimes a little sketchy) and the mic input sometimes works. When it doesn't work, it appears to hang Virtualbox. Not just the Guest OS -- the Virtualbox interface is completely unresponsive and I have to kill it by hand.

It doesn't consistently crash when using the mic -- sometimes I can run Rosetta Stone with mic input for a few minutes without a problem. But it always shows up sooner or later and quite often hangs the system on first use of the mic. It never seems to hang when I'm not using the mic.

I'd love to hear any great ideas on how to chase this down. Thanks in advance for the help!
