After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04, installing guest additionst etc., I have several problems:
when in fullscreen, I can't see the virtualbox menu... so I'm completely stuck inside the virtual machine unless I shut it down or I ctrl-alt-canc
running a 3d application, e.g. glxgears, results in the screen going black, the 3d app being visualized for a second, and then I'm back on the desktop with a black window in place of the 3d app
Everything seems to work fine in windowed mode. It looks like there's some overlaying bug somewhere? I've searched in this and in other forum and I can't find anyone with the same problem...
I've got the latest virtualbox, an nVidia GTX 460 and I'm on Windows7 64bit. Any ideas?
I can't seem to reproduce this but I can give you a few tips.
If you can not see the VirtualBox tab by moving your mouse to the bottom middle of your screen you can use the (host+home) toggle to open the default VirtualBox menu.
also the (host+f) toggle gets you in and out of full screen.
You might be having a video adapter issue since Ubuntu 11.04 relies heavily on compiz to do their screen rendering now so they have made a Unity 2D that seems to work better for some users.
Make sure that your host has the latest drivers for you video card and check with the Ubuntu forums. Even on metal there are a lot of people having graphics issues.
@Perryg: thank you for your tips. Interestingly, they don't work. If I issue either command, the screen "freezes" displaying my Linux desktop; the mouse still moves (although the cursors changes shape according to the underlying windows desktop) and the only way out seems to be Ctrl-Alt-Canc.
It is definitely something related to the video adapter. While Linux is frozen that way, if I go back to windows (via Ctrl-Alt-Canc), Aero is temporarily disabled.
The curious thing, though, again, is that everything, including 3d graphics and whatnot, works fine when in windowed mode...
@tgraupne: yep, the two problems seem very similar, except that host+f doesn't work for me. I'm really surprised that nobody else seems to be experiencing this, given how common my configuration should be: win7 host + latest ubuntu guest + nvidia 460 GTX...
@UncleZeiv,
Interestingly the full screen mode might impose a little more of a burden, but you would need to have the DEVs explain that one as I said I can not reproduce your issue. You can report this to bugtracker. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.
