Windows Guest Additions Update for VirtualBox 4.0.6?
On this page: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads, there is the following note:
"After upgrading VirtualBox it is recommended to upgrade the guest additions as well."
So I was wondering ... is there an update to the Windows Guest Additions for VirtualBox 4.0.6?

Yes, and it is included with your VirtualBox install.

If that's so, then perhaps something went wrong with my upgrade, because the bubble help text that appears when I hover over the Guest Additions icon in the Task Bar says: "Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions 4.0.4 r70112".Perryg wrote:Yes, and it is included with your VirtualBox install.

That's because you have not installed them yet.

One of us is confused!Perryg wrote:That's because you have not installed them yet.
Earlier, you said that it was included with my VirtualBox install. Now you're saying that I have to install it. If it was included with my VirtualBox install, and yet, did not install, then, how do I install it?

Do you remember how you did it the first time? That is the way you install the updates.
Click on the devices tab at the top of the guests window and then click install guest additions.

No, only you are confused. The bubble tells you to upgrade the additions. Just do it. The .iso file which contains the additions has already been updated to 4.0.6 when you upgraded VirtualBox.Fender Strat wrote:One of us is confused!Perryg wrote:That's because you have not installed them yet.

The additions are installed in the guest OS. That can only be done while the guest OS is running. This cannot be done directly by the VirtualBox upgrade. What VirtualBox can do is upgrade the install media and prompt you to run the install.

Yes, I do. The first time was different, as I had to download the guest additions separately from the VM. At any rate, this time it was much easier, and your instructions did the trick. Thank you.Perryg wrote:Do you remember how you did it the first time? That is the way you install the updates.

Read previous post. There is no way to install the guest additions as they do not work in Windows 8 and are not supported.
