How to handle extensions

Maybe I should have posted this in the Windows Host forum. If so, please move it there. Sorry.
<<Edit>> This was the problem. I just unchecked the USB 2.0 option and Ubuntu 11.04 updates and installs software as normal. <</Edit>>
Ok, I found a difference between my laptop and desktop, both running the latest VBox version that is probably the reason for my previous post about not being able to install updates or software after installing 11.04. When I upgraded VBox to version 4.0.6 I received a message saying I need to install extensions for USB 2.0 to work and in fact without them I get an error and any VM won't run. However, my laptop doesn't have the extension installed and all VMs run fine. I've uninstalled the extension on my desktop and am now getting the error. How can I set it up like my laptop, without the extensions, so I can install and run 11.04?
Thanks.
