Dear all
I am currently running OS Windows 7 on a PC.
I have downlaoded VirtualBox 4.0.6 r 71416
I would like (if possible) import a Linus Host virtual machine that I was running with older version of Virtual Box under Windows XP OS:
Here is a log
00:00:02.211 VirtualBox 3.2.4 r62467 win.x86 (Jun 8 2010 13:29:15) release log
00:00:02.211 Log opened 2011-02-13T10:32:06.765625000Z
00:00:02.212 OS Product: Windows XP Professional
00:00:02.212 OS Release: 5.1.2600
00:00:02.212 OS Service Pack: 3

I have the VDI file but I do not manage to load/import it.
May be the version difference is too large and I should first use a version before the major v4.0

Let me please know how I should proceed.

Thanks
JE

It should still work. The settings are what are really important and should be the exact same as there were in the original setup.
Make sure that the VT-x/AMD-v is the exact same and trying to start the XP in a new machine that has hardware-v if the older version did not have it can trash the guest. Look closely at the IO/APIC. If the older one was not setup to use SMP make sure that it is off on the new one. Once it tries to boot Windows will want to change the single to multi processor kernel and you will have issues.

Well you would not import it.
Create a new guest and when asked to create a new HDD or use an existing one, tell VBox to use an existing one and point it to the *.vdi file. Keep the settings as close to the original as possible and it should boot up. Then make sure to update to the latest Guest Additions.
