You may think this is a strange question, but have you tried one processor in the vm?

My 2008 R2 server runs fine with 2 processors, but there have been reports of it running faster with one in a vm in some cases (depending on the host hardware and OS).

Upgrade your RAM and give the VM 2 GB, see how that goes. Also, you say it's 'slow', but how do you tell it's really slow? For all we care you're trying to run it on a mobile processor that provides 64 bit options to a VM but actually runs at 1,2 GHz tops, slowed down to 600 MHz due to running on battery.

Also check the Guest side, maybe a process is running at top usage slowing things down.
