Hi,
I imported in Virtualbox 4.0.4 an XP vmdk that I used with VMWare. After installing guest additions, the vmdk seems to work fine, but there's an annoyance: It takes a long time (several minutes) at the blue "Welcome screen" that you see just before the desktop appears. During this long time, there's almost no disk activity in the VM (the red circle flashes a bit, but most of the time it's inactive).
If it's of any help, the host is OSX 10.6.7, and I'm using the latest "official" precompiled Vbox 4.0.4 for OSX.
Also, if it helps, I had to enable IO APIC, because otherwise XP won't boot (as I said, it was installed with VMWare, and I suppose VMWare had it enabled during XP installation).
Thanks for any advice you can give me!!

Re: XP welcome screen takes a very long time
Just one core. Also, I disabled 3D acceleration. No changes: the blue welcome screen stays for a couple of minutes or so. It's very strange, because the booting is fast, and XP also runs fast, but however, the blue welcome stays for a couple of minutes.squall leonhart wrote:reduce the amount of cores made available.
How can I know what's happening during the blue welcome screen?

Re: XP welcome screen takes a very long time
Sorry, it was my mistake: I forgot to uninstall VMWare Tools in the guest vmdk!!!! (As I said, this virtual machine was created with VMWare, so it had the VMWare Tools installed)
Just uninstalled that, and now the blue welcome screen stays for just a few seconds, as it should be!!
