Windows 3.11

Post by cdhinch »

I need to install Windows 3.11 due to an older CNC machine we have on the floor running Optronics software. Anyway. I start a new VM called Windows 3.11, I load MSDOS 6.22 IMG files no problem, I get the CDROM working, everything on DOS works great. I then try to load Windows 3.11 via ISO, or IMG and I can't get past Disk 2. I really need help and understanding on this. I have tried every configuration known to man. I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Tecra S11 laptop running 32 bit and using VM 4.0.4

Can anyone help.

Not really supported but it does work to a fashion.

Just remember that Win 3.11 was just DOS and as such you need to keep the guest setting minimal. No sound, no USB, and unless you have WFW, no network. (there were third party software that would get the network going but is very hard to find these days) Also remember no VT-x/AMD-v no IO-APIC. Small HDD size and little RAM.

One last thing, if you set this up as DOS and don't use a program like rain to control the ticks (see the tutorial section) the CPU will be maxed out all the time.

Finally, thank you, it worked. Brings me back to the not so good old days.
