(Solved) vbvideo module mismatch?

Post by loukingjr »

I updated my ArchBang guest yesterday and after rebooting it refuses to start the xserver. it just opens into the CLI with the "ID "X" is respawning too fast..." message and if I log in and try to run startx I get this...

I tried reinstalling the GAs to no avail. I posted this basic question over at the ArchBang forum but seeing the error seems to be saying there is a module mismatch with vboxvideo I am hoping someone might have some insight.

thanks ahead of time.

I just wanted to mention I uninstalled the guest additions and now Archbang boots normally, albeit @1024x768. I don't know if it has anything to do with anything but I know they changed from using the 'sda3' designations to the uuid number in grub. they also changed to a new xserver. all I know so far is, with guest additions installed it won't boot, without them it will.

All of this should be addressed in the next maintenance release of VirtualBox. Seems a lot of distros went ahead with the new xorg and it was a bit of a tussle to get the right mix in the guest additions. You can of course build your own from SVN and have it now, but keep in mind that SVN is bleeding edge and can break things from time to time.

thanks Perry, I just saw a solution in a previous post I missed. http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... 08#p183108
I'm marking this as solved.
