I am new to using virtual machines .

since i run a windows xp system i created a new partition for the virtual box. but it seems my understanding of how it works is not correct. what i am trying to do is
  • Use the virtual box as a device to switch between OS and have the OS share files /folders.
  • How can i make the virtual box use the physical partition and install the ubuntu stuff on it.
A newbie linux question
  • if we use an ide like code blocks in the gui mode of linux to compile programs its will still properly produce all the relevant files right? , I understand most of the linux development is done in bash terminal. I still havent gorked it yet.
  • How can we share files between windows dirve and virtual box ubuntu. like installers or code files or other documents.

Also would could any one please explain in simple terms hosts and clients? . Is this same as server and clients?

Also what would my usage come under? i.e hosts or client.
