Some graphic renderer not working on Virtualbox

Post by Raphael Vanier »

Hi,

I am new to VirtualBox and I have install Windows XP in Virtualbox with Ubuntu 10 as my main operating system. I have also installed Virtualbox extension. I have installed windows normally, installed my softwares and everything seems to work fine, except that some graphic renderer with some softwares are do not actually work. 3DS Max, the 3D editing software is one of them, the viewports stay gray, as if nothing is being rendered. Other games with a graphic renderer inside a standard Windows window show the same behavior.

Any help with this? Is there a fix in Virtualbox?

Did you install the guest additions (in the guest) while Windows was in safe mode?

I just did now. In the installation, there was something about Direct3D support for guest (experimental). I didn't click that checkbox because I wasn't sure if "experimental" was safe. Should I reinstall it with it?

Now When I try to open 3DS MAX, I get the following message:
"This virtual machine window is optimized to work in 32 bit color mode, but the color quality of the virtual display is currently set to 16 bit."
I went into the configuration of my Windows XP VM, can't find anything with 16 bit or 32 bit.

Otherwise, 3DS Max and other softwares still don't work...

Yes you need to install the 3D (again while in safe mode)

If you want to use 3D in the guest you have to use the "experimental" version. There is no other!
