keyboard type does not appear to be known

enclosed VBox.log says:

00:00:00.255 of keyboard you have and whether you are using a remote X server or
00:00:00.255 something similar.

I use VirtualBox 3.1.6 under Ubuntu 10.04. I installed a Ubuntu 8.04 guest, choosed German as language and Keyboard layout, but keys like z are shown as y. Intresting is, that if I export the guest and import it on anoter machine with the same OS and VirtualBox version, everything is fine.

I use a VPN tunnel to access the Ubuntu 10.04 Host per VNC, start it's VirtualBox and the problematic guest.

Tell me, if you need more informations, please.

What can I do, to get the correct german keyboard layout?
