Guest OS - Win 7 32bit
Host OS - Ubuntu 10.04.2lts 64bit
with VirtualBox 4.0.4 r70........
hardware: dell studio 1555 , intel2core, 4gb ram, ati radeon hd 4550 512MB,
VboxGuestAdditions with VM VirtualBox Extension Pack applied and 3D Support in Safe Mode is selected.
Everything looks to work fine for now - audio, video, and network , but I want to enable my hardware video card with more shared memory and install the video drivers in the guest OS (win7) is that possible ?
thanks

Re: How to enable the Hardware Video Card?
Short answer is no.
Yo must use the vbox video in the guest so if the GAs were installed (in safe mode for Windows) then that is all you can do at this point.

Re: How to enable the Hardware Video Card?
There would be no point in installing the video drivers in the guest OS because the processing is actually done in the host using the host OS. See 4.4.1 in the manual (read right to the end).

It's also noted in the VirtualBox FAQ.

Re: How to enable the Hardware Video Card?
sorry that I didn't clarify myself. but I wanted to enable opengl 3 in winxp/vista/7 GA and to increase the VRAM and the resolution (which seems it's not possible for now - more than 1024x768 and 128video ram)
is there plans for supporting opengl 3 and add more VRAM in the near future?
thanks

Re: How to enable the Hardware Video Card?
No. The current approach is to offload the 3D processing to the host, not to emulate a 3D-capable video card in the guest. Increasing the video RAM in the guest has no effect with this approach.
