Using just my own stupidity I managed to delete some system files on my laptop. At the time I was using Ubuntu 10.10, with Virtualbox, as host to Windows Vista. On that VM was a Web Authoring program and a website I manage.
I managed to salvage amongst other data the full (.Virtualbox) file using a Live CD and transferred it to an Ext HDD.
I have now reformatted my laptop and reinstalled Ubuntu and VB OSE 4.0.4 (using the Ubuntu Software Centre). What I need to know -
is there any way I can use the data I have salvaged to recreate the VM?
I have a snapshot vdi of the day I last used VB and the other files.
I tried renaming the new .Virtualbox file and placing the salvaged one in it's place - but no dice.
I placed the snapshot file in the new Virtualbox VMs file and tried loading that but got the error re the UUID (i think those were the letters). I tried to understand the tutorial about this issue but I'm afraid it lost after 3 lines.
So, to recap, am I able to use the salvaged .Virtualbox data in any way to save my website?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Importing VM
We''ll need specifics I'm afraid, particularly an exact folder listing of all the relevant files you have, with sizes and full names (no hiding the extensions). Accurate data is needed: for example ".VirtualBox" is a folder, not a file, and its contents may or may not be enough, depending on which VBox version created it. In short you had better list the contents for us.

Re: Importing VM
Ok, thanks for the response, I've just sorted this issue out and have mounted the old Hard Disk on the new set up.
