I have a win7 64bit host that I need to run an application from guest server 2003 on a Dell Latitude XT2. I have both the wireless and wired adapters disabled on the Latitude XT2 as I don't need internet access. Host is set for IPv4 address is 192.168.56.1, mask is 255.255.255.0., no Default Gateway or Preferred DNS Server. In VB Host-only Ethernet Adapter is set. DHCP Server is set for Enabled with Server address 192.168.56.100, Server Mask is 255.255.255.0 with lower address bound 192.168.56.101, upper address bound set for 192.168.56.254. Guest (Server 2003) is set for DHCP. Guest IP (through DHCP) comes up 169.254.236.96 with subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 no Default Gateway, no DNS Server or WINS Server. Windows Firewall (both Private and Public are off) What am I doing wrong? Is it the Dell?

comes up 169.254.236.96 with subnet mask of 255.255.0.0
This usually means that the guest can not see the host-only network.
Try to release and renew the ip address.

The IP released, but on the renew it comes up " An error has occurred while renewing interface LAC 4 : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. I don't know what could be blocking DHCP?

Changed "Public" network to "Work" in Win7, restarted VB - same result. Somehow it's not getting DHCP.

Try static
ip=192.168.56.101 sub=255.255.255.0
Is Windows guest set to actually use DHCP? Most Win server want static.

No go on 192.168.56.101. Can't get to guest (Server 2003) from host (Win7) either from browser or network (or ping).

Then the network is not being made.
- Post the hosts and guests ipconfig /all
As well as the guests log file (as an attachment)
From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it.
Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Not sure about guest log. Is that the Vbox log in VB? Also I have no way of pasting the ipconfig screencapture from the guest as it's not connected to anything. What type of file can I attach to my post?

Yes it is the VB guest log.
You can capture the text in a Windows terminal. Right click on the top title and right click on select. Highlight and then right click again and select copy.
or you can use the > to file if you prefer.
Save them as text file and then attach.
Please send all of the information I have requested.

Log shows a lot of issues with the PCnet adapter. I normally use the Intel PRO/1000 MT server for Windows servers. Try changing this in the guest settings and start the guest and see if it will find the adapter and actually work.
You may need to turn DHCP back on but static should work as well.

Tried the different net card with both DHCP and assigned IP. No go. I read in one of the posts that somebody changed the NIC speed from 0 in the config and it worked. It may not be related.

Something is either blocking this or the host-only drivers are not installed properly.
What virus software are you using on the host? Anything else that could be blocking the transfer of data?
Try stopping all non-essential services on the host and see which one is causing the issue.
