XP SP3 guest, MS Loopback Adapter, SSH tunnel

On a local (native) Windows XP Pro SP3 system, I use Putty to forward several ports (browser, VNC, a few other tools) over an SSH tunnel across the internet to a remote (native) Windows XP Pro SP3 system. I also use the MS Loopback Adapter 'trick' similar to the one described here http://www.blisstonia.com/eolson/notes/smboverssh.php. This enables the local machine's Windows Explorer to directly browse over the SSH tunnel, the remote's fileshares. All of this is working well.

I'm trying to move these functions into an XP Pro SP3 Vbox guest (currently running on XP Pro SP3 host, if that matters). I have nearly all functions working well -- the exception is the MS Loopback Adapter 'trick', I just can't get this to work so far.

Does anyone know how to make this work in the guest? Or can help me pin down the source of the trouble? Any help or info is appreciated.

Kind regards,

NAT? add a second adapter to NAT with the lba on it in the Guest. Or maybe the lba needs to be bound to the NAT ip.

@vbox4me2

I had a hunch something about the default for NAT may not be what's needed for this application, but I have little experiencing changing the defaults (I've changed the IP and proxy on VM's, that's about it).

Thank you for both of these ideas, I will give them a try this weekend and post back.

It might be a configuration error, the loopback adapter is always there with windows as 127.0.0.1 so you might need to point there and nat-map accordingly on the real ip interface, here I use stunnel with the same trick and no issues.

When you say "real IP interface" you are talking about the VM host?

No the interface that exists, in a VM or the Host (a vm doesn't really exist but for arguments sake we call that one real), a loopback one never really exists in either machines.

Thank you for clarifying. I believe I've done at least a few of these things... but I tried so many things it's a bit of a jumble now :-) May not have done any of them correctly, either. Thank you for your help. I'll try again this weekend, and I'm sure I'll have some questions...
