Totally Newbie here. My OS in WinXP and I'm wanting to use Virtual Box to learn Joomla. I installed everything just fine - left all the default settings as they were. After I send the power down signal or even if I shut down my PC and reboot later, VB tries to connect to the server (?). I noticed that I also have 2 network connections in My Network Places and that my PC no longer appears to use the Local Area Connection. If I disable the Virtual Box connection I can't get online.

Can someone place explain? It it a security risk if I use the connection that VB created instead of the local connection? Am I not doing something right?

VirtualBox is just an application. It cannot connect to a server. What exactly were you trying to say? What server?

If you think that the Host Only adapter which VirtualBox installs in the host is causing you a problem, disable it in the host OS.

You cannot use this connection to access the Internet from the host OS. As its name suggests it can only be used between the host and the guest.

Hmmm. Okay, maybe I left something out... when I install the JumpBox - so I can use Joomla - it creates a network (or, in addition to my Local Area Connection I then have a new network connection). So, I sign in and work in Joomla (I thought on a server). When I sign out and power down I can not longer connect with my LAC and my firewall keeps alerting me that VB is trying to connect. If I allow it, I can continue to connect to the Internet, otherwise I can't.

You're not making much sense indeed. Can you give us a reason why VB wants to connect to the internet? Like you try to access internet from a VM instead of the Host?

What firewall software are we talking about? What exactly does it say?
