Pagefile on immutable disk?

I am thinking of making a more effective use of disks regarding pagefile.
Currently I simply have it as 'C:\pagefile.sys' inside the vdi. This means that whenever I create a snapshot, that file takes up a lot of space, which is basically garbage (and will even be backed up too).
On the host I have moved pagefile to D: drive - physical disk 2. This has at least 2 advantages: Speed, I/O operations on C: drive are not slowed down when used - and it won't be backed up, saving space.
I would like a similar thing on my VM, here I was also hoping to save a lot of space.
However I have never tried it and I can't find anything on theses forums regarding this issue.
Is 'Immutable' the right way to go - will it work or are there other ways? Ideally I want a small vdi file that I can 'write to' and which is then reverted back when closing the vm.
Anyone tried this?
