X11 hangs in Slackware current, virtualbox 4.0.4

Im running slackware current with 512 mb ram, guest additions 4.0.4 installed, x.org 1.9. X will start up fine, but it will then hang and accept no keyboard/mouse input. running apps via ssh -Y is fine, but x by itself wont work. host has 2gb ram, nvidia geforce 1800 graphics with 512mb. Ubuntu 11.04 latest release. help???
