VirtualBox crashing on Shared folder addition?

Guest: Ubuntu 10.10 64

After mounting a file system from the host to the guest (automount on and permanent) VBox has died twice in succession with this:


Anyone else experiencing this problem? Are there logs I can reference to determine what the problem is?

Nope, that's not it... removed the shared drive and it's still crapping out. All I was doing was perusing the Ubuntu Software Center and it dies again.
Looking through the logs, this:

Would seem to be a pretty good candidate... crap, there it dies again.

Post the guests log file (as an attachment) located in the main VBox gui under machine -> show logs

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

there are 4 tabs... VBox.log, *.1, *.2, *.3 in the log viewer. Do you want the contents of the first one (VBox.log.1) ?

If you get to the log file like a showed you there is a save button.

You might want to change the context menu of the log editor so visually challenged (well I'm not, but apparently I was this time) users don't make assumptions.

Couple of things.
I don't see where you have installed the Extension Pack How to install Extension Pack
Not that you must have it but if you don't you need to make sure that you do not turn USB2 on in any guest

Also I am seeing this error a lot since they put the preview window on the main manager.

If you right click on the preview window and select to not update it then these errors should stop. It might even help your crashes, but I am not sure about that yet.

didn't realize the extension pack was required. However, after installing and running the last ~hour it seems to have stabilized. Interesting how it seemed fine for the first day post installation and suddenly started crashing pretty consistently. And I changed the Preview update as you recommended. I thought that feature was pretty cool. It seem a pretty innocuous process but in hindsight would think it's pretty involved, eh?

Yeah it was cute for a bit, but how often do you sit and watch it? After I saw the errors I looked at the process and for me it seemed like a waste in CPU ticks. Not only have I disabled the updates I have switched it off in the main manager.

Probably another obvious oversight on my part, but I see where I can switch off the Preview Updates (via the context menu over the preview monitor), but where have you "switched if off in the main manager." ?

Right click just to the right of General and you should get a menu where you can take the tic out of preview.
