Cannot install XP Pro under VBox 4 - F6 driver problem

I followed the howto here and created a floppy image containing the drivers from the zip file uploaded in that thread.

I extracted the contents of the zip file and copied them over to a floppy img:

$ dd if=/dev/zero of="sata_x86.img" bs=1k count=1440
# mkfs.msdos sata_x86.img
# mount -o loop sata_x86.img /mnt
# cp ./driver/* /mnt
# umount /mnt

I selected the SATA driver:


Which allows me to select a virtual HDD:

The install begins but quickly stops complaining that setup cannot locate iaStor.sys


I'm running the latest version of VB for Linux and the same XP_SP3.iso I've been using forever. If I hit abort several times, the installer will continue but will eventually end in a blue screen:

Its easier to install XP with an IDE Controller, there is no disc needed.

After installation you can add an SATA Controller, start the Guest to install the driver, shutdown. Then change the disc to the new sata controller, ready.

There are several issues to be aware of.

Matrix Storage Tech drivers v8, will completely kill the io performance once windows reaches the finalising stages (post install user config) and also ruins an existing installs performance. (i actually tested 7 different MST8 drivers and got this issue with all of them),
Rapid Storage Tech 9 has issues with CDRoms on the sata controller, Bsods when used as an F6 disk.
Rapid Storage Tech 10 provides the best performance i have seen for existing guest installs but again, Bsods when used as an F6 disk.


Best to install Matrix Storage Tech 7 drivers, and upgrade straight to the RST 10 drivers.
