Ability to write CD/DVD from VM?

Is there support for writing CD's and DVD's from within a VM in VirtualBox. I googled and found a reference to this topic that said it was still experimental, but I believe that post was a few years old.
Has this been implemented, still experimental, or technologically ridiculous (due to maintaining write speeds, etc)?

Try it with the passthrough for the CD/DVD enabled.

Tried that, too, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have the "Host Drive DVDRW IDE 16X (hda)" dropdown selection in the VM menu checked. But my VM application (dkopp) still does not detect a real CD/DVD.
I take that back. Xfburn does detect it, and is writing a DVD right now.
Thanks, Perry. -Hal

Must either be a setup issue or the software you are using. Here is a SS of me using Ubuntu guest and CD/DVD creator I just took. All I had to do was to enable passthrough in the guests settings (while the guest was shut down)

My problem is that dkopp does not automatically find the CD/DVD drive, so I had to enter it by hand. That was the only issue.
Thanks for your help, again.
