win2008 R2 + Outlook Exchange Server 2007

Post by violet313 »

Hi, 2nd post, pls be kind,,

setup:
vb version: 2.1.4
host os: vista64
guest os: windows 2008 R2

background:
I need to evaluate a custom OWA idea: for a given user i need to know if i can extend the ES2007 OWA menus to provide a custom function to generate a PIM Task (i assume using EWS) in the same users' mailbox. From reading all the MS docos i think this is possible but i need to be sure. hence, i want to write a small bit of test code for comforts' sake.

While i know plenty about OOM/MAPI & so on, i know nothing about Exchange Server. the base-line for this work is ES2007. So in the first place i am wanting to set up a dev environment using vb. I have grabbed a win2k8 r2 evaluation iso as well as a es2007 iso. now i need to install the buggers into a vb guest & set up whatever network bridging blah so that i can test stuff properly from my physical host m/c.

At present, i have successfully installed win2k8 & at logon, am now faced with the following dialog: Initial Configuration Tasks.
nb: i really don't want to f*k this up & make life more difficult, lol
Of note on the dialog are things like:
  • Configure netwoking
    Provide computer name & domain
    Add roles
    Add features
    Enable remote desktop

questions:
1) is there any reason why i should upgrade from vb2.1.4?(have been using vb for years & have come to value a stable release, lol)

2) what is the minimum i need to config, in order to get coding my cusom OWA form & my EWS (ie: as little working knowledge of ES/IIS/AD as i can get away with, lol)? eg:
  • domains?
    iis?
    active directory?
    roles?
anything else i might have missed

Pls assume i know nothing about any of the above!

3) how do i configure the vb networking so that i can properly reach my guset os from my physical host IE browser.

okok, i know it's a biG ask, but i can't be the 1st vb'er to have done this or related..
ps: did already google this but came up with very little, sigh
