Winderz 2000 software load problem

Post by lanchemwork »

I have a couple of programs that will not load properly. Visual Studio exits install on some .dbp file, and I have another program that will not install it's .dll files. Is there some reason for that? These files are on the installation cd and they install on stand alone winderz 2000. However, winderz sucks and can't handle the hardware setup and Ubuntu 10.10 loves it. I need to know what is going on if someone has an idea. I am using virtualbox 4.0.4 to run winderz.

It may be that my problem is that I have no administrator privileges on virtual Windows 2000. It appears that VirtualBox does not allow me to add the software I need to the virtual system. Even when I am signed as root user for the host Ubuntu 10.10 I still can't make administrative changes in the virtual machine, therefore, I believe if someone had a remedy to this problem I could then install the .dll files I need to run my software. Anybody have a way around this, Anybody?

How are you logging into the server? The privileges you have depend on that. They do not depend on VirttualBox or your host credentials. The vm is a separate machine running a separate OS.

I am not sure I understand, "How am I logging on to the server?". I am su on my Ubuntu system, but that doesn't give me admin privilege on my Virtual Windows 2000 in Virtualbox.

Of course it doesn't! The vm is a separate machine running a separate OS, which is Windows. If you want to install a program in this Windows machine, you need to log into Windows with an account which has admin privilege. How you do that is a Windows question, not a VirtualBox question.

Thank you for at least replying to this problem. I don't think you really understand what it is though. I will look at closer myself. I seem to be making some headway on the problem anyway, and I already know the answers you were so kind to give.
