VB not starting: E_FAIL (0x8004005) Component: Machine

Hey all, first post here. Unfortunately its due to catastrophic data loss 
. So i'm running VB on a computer and get a blue screen of death. I don't recall if VB was running or not but I suspect it was. (I'm running Ubuntu on Windows 7 just fyi). Anyway, I start the computer back up and my image is listed as "saved" instead of powered off. When I try to start it up, I get this error:
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: ISession {124dccb-12b2-4ec1-b7cd-ddd9f65bf4d}
I tried to edit the XML file to change the session data to "powered off" instead of saved. This had no effect. I've purchased a new computer and have all the files from my previous version.
I'm now running 4.0.4 (the error happened on 3.2.0)
