Missing <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl file

Post by SchneiderIS »

I had an unexpected power failure that looks to have corrupted my Windows OS on a VM. The error that I get is:

Code: Select all

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.
Does anyone have any experience with this or am I looking at having to do a Windows restore?

Hopefully a system restore/repair from CD will fix this. Since it is the guests kernel that is missing or corrupt a standard system restore more than likely will not work.
