VirtualBox 4.0.4 Guests Hang on Windows 7

Hi, I am new to VirtualBox and have had fun creating many Linux guests under a Windows 7 64 bit host.

Noticed that on occasions the guest would totally freeze, not respond to force shut down and only option was to power off the guest. Not a good thing to do.

I have recently being doing some work on an openSUSE 11.3 64 bit guest and it can run quite ok for a while and then freezes. From then on after each restart it freezes not long after I have logged in.

I have updated to 4.0.4 of VirtualBox as well as upgraded the extensions and Guest Additions to 4.0.4, but the problem remains :?: . I am not sure why this is happening and would really appreciate assistance to resolve this so I can continue to enjoy the various Linux guest OS I have created.

I have a quad core i7 PC running Windows 7 64 bit with 8GB ram. It has a gigabit network connection.

Could someone please give me some direction how to fix this very annoying problem?

My comment won't be helpful but for me, the last working version of VB is 3.2.10

You may want to try this version. It is available under the link "VirtualBox older builds"

I am having the same problem. Same specs as you

win 7 x64, i7, 8gb ram.

Guest os is Windows 2008 R2 x64. After a couple minutes it just locks up. CPU usage goes full blast for the assigned cores (tried 1 cpu, 2 cpu, 4 cpus ).

What the heck is up? First time trying VirtualBox, not too happy with the result. Now my server 2008 install is dead gotta reinstall (too many hard reboots).

Loaded build 4.0.0 and now having no issues. Looks to be a bug.
