(Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
I had a working Xubuntu 11.04 in VB 4.0.2 but after updating to VB 4.0.4 I no longer can get fullscreen to work. Right after login when it starts to draw the desktop it is in 1440x900 but once it gets further it reverts to 1024x768. If I try the monitor settings 1440x900 is still listed as a choice but when I chose it I get the "do you want to use this configuration or the old one" but the screen size never changes.
any thoughts?

Re: Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
for some reason I had to switch out of fullscreen mode, drag the screen to a different size, then switch to fullscreen and it works again. beats me.

Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
For some reasons installing the guest additions actually breaks xorg in linux guest (ubuntu natty 11.04). The X server ends up with a FC at each start. I am on a 64-bits win 7 host, using latest virtualbox 4.0.4. Hence the guest additions look like the culprit to me

BTW, I had to uninstall the guest additions to have my VM to actually run at least

I downloaded this morning's daily build of Xubuntu 11.04 and it seems it won't run with GA's installed.

The OS is still in development, so things break a lot during that time. Please don't complain here if it doesn't work.

Actually I don't know who you were referring to about "complaining" but I posted because I thought perhaps someone might have a solution or a workaround.Sasquatch wrote:The OS is still in development, so things break a lot during that time. Please don't complain here if it doesn't work.

Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
Then you should've used better words to describe your 'issue'. It sounds a lot like a complaint. We have had these kinds of things about Linux distributions that are not final yet for years. People always complained that this doesn't work and that is broken. Having another thread about another distro that's in alpha stage is getting on ones nerves.

Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
I would love for you to explain which words I used that you objected to and which words you would of preferred I used. I never used the word "issue" for example although you seemed to have quoted it. I have been using computers for a very long time and I am well aware things in development break on occasion. I happen to really like VirtualBox and chose it over both Parallels and VMware for the Mac which I had already purchased. I have never said, implied or imagined there was anything wrong with VB. As far as "people always complaining" about something not working, I don't think that excuses rude responses from moderators. Nor do I particularly like being lumped in with others that "get on your nerves". And yes, I have asked on Ubuntu's forum and so far, no one has accused me of complaining because I asked a question.Sasquatch wrote:Then you should've used better words to describe your 'issue'. Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
Your first post implies a problem with VB, it being not able to run Natty. That alone has come around dozens of times (not for Natty in particular, but for others like Fedora and previous Ubuntu releases). Next smunix mentions the GA being the cause of all the problems. Next you talk about the daily build with the GA not able to run.
All that is enough for me to see it as complaints. Tell me, how are those posts NOT complaints?

Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
What someone "infers" out of nothing does not constitute a complaint. As I have already stated, something was no longer working which was working. I did not blame VB or Xubuntu. I expect things to break and as I also said, I just asked because I was hoping someone may have a fix or a workaround. I had nothing to do with what smunix said and as far as what I got out of it, the recent GAs and the recent build of Xubuntu 11.04 are not playing nice together. It didn't even occur to me someone would take it as an affront to either. I belong to a number of forums and it seems to me, if a moderator gets annoyed by questions or thinks RTFM is an appropriate response, or thinks everyone should know more than they know, perhaps they are in the wrong place. Because as I am sure you are aware, there will always be endless questions.Sasquatch wrote:Your first post implies a problem with VB, it being not able to run Natty. 10.10 of Xubuntu does full screen fine, I just had to reinstall the Guest Additions using the autorun.sh, then restart the VM. Not sure if this will help you guys running Alpha.

Re: (Solved?) Xubuntu 11.04, no Fullscreen with VB 4.0.4
The alpha works a bit differently, because it uses new versions of the software. This means that the modules need to be accommodated for the new version and the API changes. The reason 10.10 works, is because it's already supported. 11.04 is a different matter, it's in constant change and where the GA would work on alpha 1, they fail on the current release state. I'm pretty sure that 4.0.6 will have better support for 11.04, because Xorg/Xserver will be about done or even has a freeze on Ubuntu when it's released.

oh and thanks Sasquatch for your input. i had delved into this matter and found that the installer wasn't complaining, i have everything installed correctly or at least it appears to be, but i do not have the option to increase the resolution. at least i am working in the latest kde.
