Connecting iPhone crashes VB Guest (Mac OS)

Post by ryback »

Hi. I'm running a Mac OS guest on a Win7 host. Mac OS works OK.

Problem appears when I connect the iPhone. After a few seconds, the Mac OS guest crashes. I enabled USB EHCI, but upon starting the virtual machine, I get a warning that among other things say "Implementation of the USB 2.0 controller not fund! The device will be disabled. You can ignore this warning but there will be no USB 2.0 support in your VM. To fix this issue, either install the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' or disable USB 2.0 support in the VM settings."

I tried using the iPhone with EHCI disabled, but also had the guest crashed. Finally, I read in other post that the Extension Pack for Mac OS is not supported by VB, so I didn't install it.

Any help on how to connect the iPhone with the Mac OS guest will be greatly appreaciated.

The Extension Pack is supported. What is not supported is the Guest Additions. Not the same thing.

Karog - you are right. After installing EP, I could plug my iPhone without having the guest crash. Thank you!

A new problem that appeared is that iTunes hangs when trying to talk to the iPhone, but I think I have already seen in other posts that is a common thing.

Really wonder why you use OSX Server for iTunes and your iPhone, if there is a Windows version of iTunes that gives you much better results performance-wise.

For any Ubuntu 9.10 / 10.x users, you just need to follow the following 2 steps before you can connect an iPhone through virtualbox:

1) Install the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack to enable USB 2.0 and EHCI (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/serve ... ml#extpack)

2) Add yourself to the 'vboxusers' group by running "sudo users-admin"

Restart the VM and it should work fine.
