Safe Browsing? Ubuntu in VirtualBox on Vista

I would like to know if browsing the internet would be safer if I only browse in Ubuntu running through VirtualBox, even though the main OS is Vista.

Is the memory protected/separate on the VM?

Would it be safe to browse using this method?

Could a virus pass through Ubuntu/VM onto Vista using this method?

The reason that I want to do this is that I don't like to dual boot and many of my games will only run well in Windows, but I want the software benefits and protection of Ubuntu.

I might not be explaining myself well, so please ask me if you need further clarification.

You have to hit a very well written and advanced virus to get your Host infected by a virus caught by a VM that's running a different OS. So yeah, you are safe.
