OpenSuse VHD

Post by hdunham11 »

I might have an interesting problem here. I have a VHD from virtual PC for OpenSuse 11.3 and when I load it in virtual box it brings me to a grub> command line interface. I have tried converting them to VDIs, but that did not work. I am also not exactly familiar with configuring grub, so I was wondering if I could get some help.

Yes, the VHDs do work, they will load up just fine in virtualpc, and I do not need them to work with virtual pc anymore, so I don't care if what changes I do make make them unusable in virtual pc. What seems to be happening is that grub will load, but it just won't see anything else. I can't see any of the normal files that you would expect to see. I know you can normally cat the fstab file, but grub doesn't see it. I also tried to look at Grub's menu.lst but it doesn't see that either.

If you need me to give you any more information, just let me know. I have been at this for about 3 hours now, and I will probably be here for another 2, at the least.

Normally you need to make sure that you have removed the VPC additions. Then you need to try to get the settings as close as you can in VirtualBox that you used in VPC.

But consider this. It may be worth you while to actually install a new copy in VirtualBox. You can they then to add the VHD as a second drive if there is data that you really need.

Yeah, I have done my best to do that, but It just seems like the vhd I have is just incompatible. No matter which way I look at it... I have tried using the opensuse install cd to see if it will fix it for me, but I actually get an error when it goes to install grub, tells me selected disk does not exist. I think I am going to give this one up, I have been at this for about 5 hours. This vhd is actually for my linux administration class. Luckily there isn't really anything I need on it. It is just the review assignment using an almost clean install, the professor just had a few things already set on it. I was just hoping I could get it to work.

Thanks for the help though, I will just use one that I already installed in Virtual Box.
