No Desktop Effects on Guest openSuse

Hello guys,
Please tell me is it possible to activate Desktop Effects on guest openSuse?
I'm using W7x86 Host with 8800GTX (with the latest NVidia driver) and openSuse 11.3x64 KDE4 Guest under VB PUEL 4.0.2 (with same version of guest additions).
The Desktop Effects section of System settings is telling me that "
Compositing is not supported on my your system". What is wrong?
I've tested my guest OS on other hosts with the different videocards, with different VB versions but Desktop Effects never work. Please help!

It has been my observation that the KDE desktop effects and VirtualBox 3D are not compatible. While you may be able to get it to work (kind of) in some Distros. most effects are not able to work.

Thank you for reply!
This is pity. But I will be glad if I will be able to make it to work even partially. So maybe you know how to do it? or where to look for it?

IIRC all I had to do was select a different rendering mode, in the DTE settings. Not much works I am afraid. You just need to try different things as I really don't use KDE that much. Always seemed to cause me more problems than it was worth for me.

So you want to say that I will not meet this problem in GNOME? But I like KDE, I used to it
The DTE Setting what/where is it?

DTE=DeskTop Effects There are various settings there that you can use to change how it is rendered. I don't have the exact location for you as I don't have an openSUSE KDE VM at the moment. I can tell you that the Gnome DeskTop does in fact work in openSUSE. You locate the adjustments for it in the control center and desktop effects, but Gnome uses compiz and I don't think KDE does although not sure at the moment.

I cant imagine other place for it then
YaSt Control Center -> Hardware -> Graphics Card and Monitor, but there is no such place in openSUSE 11.3 KDE!
That's why I also have other problem how to switch the video mode to 24/32 bit color.
Sorry for big images

I've tested openSuse 11.3 Desktop Effects with GNOME and wow it works!
But unfortunately there are also two issue:
1. Windows with openGL don't repaints correctly when you move window. (Its big issue for one who uses or develops gl graphics)
2. Seamless mode dosent work correctly. Maybe due to the same reasons as the 1st issue.
Is this common situation?

Is there a particular reason for picking openSUSE to begin with? GL works but it is not the best OS that I have seen when it comes to graphics in a VM.
One thing that you must understand. This stuff is still a baby and as such can and does pitch fits. I find that the best Linux for this is Ubuntu. While they are all supposed to be equal they are not and don't go for Ubuntu Studio. Bloated with packages which really does not make it any better to do GL work in. Only install packages that you need. Also a virtual machine (at this point) can not match that of bare metal OSes. Too many layers.

Ubuntu, Yes why not?

I've found out that at the moment it has at least one serious bug:
Ubuntu 10.10 guest freezes randomly. And it still persists at latest VB. Why always like this? why always something doesn't work?
But nevertheless I will try Ubuntu

thanks for advice!
