Hi everyone, i have installed the OSE and latest 4.0.2 VB on my Ubuntu 10.10 System and i have installed WindowsXP as a guest, When i boot the WinXP installation i dont get any options to go into full screen mode, seamless mode etc and i also cant install guest addictions, all the options are grayed out.

I have searched all over google and cant seem to find what the problem is.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

@djsimon-r,
You have two options to try to resolve this. You can contact Ubuntu as they are responsible for their build of VirtualBox or you can install the VirtualBox version from here VirtualBox Downloads. Note that since version 4.0.* of VirtualBox there is no PUEL version of the basic build. The PUEL section has been moved to the Extension Pack, which does require licensing.

Well anything is possible I guess but I would not think it would affect the menu items.
You did reboot the host after you installed the new version of VirtualBox right? The mods don't get replaced until the reboot.

Can you post a screen shot of this?
Also, from the host terminal/command window VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it.

My Guest Additions Service fails to start with the following message:

"Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Uninstall the Guest additions, reboot the guest, then install them again and reboot.
What version of VirtualBox are you using and where did you get it?

I'm on 4.04 from the Ubuntu Maverick repo.

That didn't help. I'm back where I was before. The machine is very unstable with the guest additions installed.
