External CD Drive issues

Hi,

I am running Windows Server 2008 on VB.

My mac's cd drive is broken so i am linking up an external one.
I have connected it as a host drive, and it states that it is connected fine.

The problem i have is that whenever i try to read a disk it says:

'Windows can't access this disc'

I don't think this is because of the disk as i have tried various discs and the message always appears.
I think it may be to do with the USB device filter in the 'Ports' section of settings.
When i edit the filter it is all automatically filled in apart from the 'port' entry.

Thanks for any help or comments you may have.

Why are you passing the drive to the VM through USB? Your Host should have it and you provide the contents of it through the normal VB optical drive option. It should work, but I've seen PC's with externally attached drives through USB failing.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I am using an external drive because my built-in mac drive is broken.
This problem occurs when connecting any USB device.
I was under the impression that this connection could be made.

Thanks,

Instead of adding usb filter to connect the drive to the guest, have you tried to tell VB drive to use the physical drive mounted on your host ?

That's what Sasquatch suggested.
