Xubuntu 11.04 alpha and guest additions.

I've been trying to run Xubuntu 11.04 alpha in VB 4.0.2 and have run into a few problems. When first installed the kernel is 2.6.38.1.15 but the only headers listed for "natty" are 2.6.28.1.28 which VB doesn't like of course. Someone on the Ubuntu forum suggested installing an earlier kernel, 2.6.37...something, because you can get the matching headers. But after I installed them I get a message while trying to install the GAs...
"Warning: unsupported pre-release version of X.Org Server installed.
Not installing the X.Org drivers."
Does anyone know a way around this or is this one of those "wait till it's not alpha" issues?
It runs fine in VB btw. I just can't install the GAs.

This will be included in the next maintenance release. I already have it from SVN and it does work with GAs, although I don't care for the unity desktop.

thanks Perry. I didn't even realize Xubuntu was including Unity. And sorry, what's SVN?

Not to worry SVN is subversion and builds are pre-alpha/alpha. Not something for everyone.

I don't think Xfce will have the Unity interface. It's too heavy to be in the 'lightweight' Xfce release. Xubuntu doesn't get as much love as Ubuntu, they prefer Gnome over just about anything and that's visible in the Xubuntu releases: there are quite a lot of Gnome things in it that wouldn't fit properly in an Xfce environment. Now it's nothing more than a less bloated Gnome environment with the Xfce looks and some Xfce specific apps.

thanks. I thought they were getting away as much as possible from Gnome. It does seem faster at any rate. I managed to get the OSE guest additions working somehow. was very convoluted. As soon as they get headers and an image that match I will switch to the PUEL versions.

Just an FYI. Starting with Version 4.0.0 of VirtualBox it is all OSE. The PUEL items are all in the Extension Pack and is installed separately where you must agree to the Incense to be able to use them.
