I hope this is not a stupid question... maybe I'm missing something trivial? I attached screenshots to explain the issue.
Here's what I run:
I have a Win7 host. I installed VirtualBox 4.0.2 and a VM with XP as guest.
I inserted a CDROM with software installation files into the Host CD drive and when I browse the files from the Win7 host I can see all the files, including setup.exe.
The XP VM is configured to see and use the Win7 Host CD drive.
The problem:
When I browse the CD from the XP VM, I see only some of the files and folders on the CD... a lot of files are missing and I don't see the setup.exe file which I need to run the installer.
how can I solve this problem??? Thanks in advance!

Set your Windows guest to show all files. By default some are not shown.

Re: XP guest can't see _some_ files on CD-ROM on Win7 host
Sorry for the delay. Thanks Perryg. I'm quiet an experienced IT guy and what you suggested was actually one of the first things I tried in order to solve the issue. It didn't help. It is really strange that the CD can be seen on both systems and accessed from both host and guest, but some files are missing when looking at it from the guest... and I wasn't able to find root cause.
Eventually I used the "shared folders" feature to do what i needed done. I shut off the guest, went to settings, shared a folder on the C drive of the host, copied all needed files from CDROM into that shared folder, and started up the guest. At that time I was able to access that shared folder and all files in it from the guest.
I'm still a bit frustrated that the CD issue wasn't resolved but at this point I am good. Thanks and hopefully others don't see this issue.
