Disk Locking

Post by navruzjon »

Hi,

I would like to have shared disk on my 2 virtual machines. Could anyone tell me how to configure to take out DISK.LOCKING for disk volume in VirtualBox?

In VMWare usually you edit vmdx file and put DISK.LOCKING=false and you can share disk volumes with any machines. But here I could not do this. Maybe, the string is differently used.
Thx.

Note that last I checked, VirtualBox doesn't support SCSI reservations, so Microsoft Cluster Services won't work. Other clustering systems may work if they only rely on network communication, YMMV.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it so much.
My version support only shareable, I think I need Multiattach to share the disk with other VMachine.
Anyway trying to make shareable, I got an error:

ERROR: Cannot change type for medium 'C:\Users\Shindo\.VirtualBox\HardDisks\navruz.vdi' to 'Shareable' since it is a dynamic medium storage unit
Details: code E_FAIL (0x80004005), component Medium, interface IMedium, callee I
Unknown
Context: "COMSETTER(Type)(DiskType)" at line 444 of file VBoxManageDisk.cpp

Really I could not get the point here. Just if you could give me shortcut please, for me not to go through whole documentation.
My appreciation.

You can not use a dynamic drive and make it shareable (multi-attached).
See Chapter 5.4 Special image write modes in your VirtualBox users manual.

Really the manual is broken down into sections and you can really benefit from using it.
