@ewa - your question does not seem to bear much resemblance to the OPs. Please do not hijack other threads - you are better off starting your own.

@mpack The OP asked about "boot up, quick start of programs and overall general usage" and later on talked about the performance of iTunes. This is exactly what I care about. I could start another thread but I'm sure some clever poster would just post a link to this thread and tell me I should be posting in here.

Given that... I have installed XP and Win 7-64 in the VM and the speed difference is not too noticeable on iTunes performance. iTunes is just really slow regardless. XP does boot up faster though.

Hello all again,

I was wondering regarding my original post what I should be running as my OS for a guest operating system Windows XP or Windows 7? I just want a virtual experience that is close as native performance. I would love to switch to a Linux distribution but worry about virtualbox performance. By the way I am not gaming at all. I just run two high end programs Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.

Don't worry too much. Just do it. You're gonna be fine.

I suggest you try Linux Mint (XFCE) and PCLinuxOS (KDE and XFCE) out. You will fine that Linux is just as good, or even better than, Win and Mac, except MS Office.

You won't be mistaken.

And don't worry about the guest OS's performance. I even run XP with 512mb and it is smooth.
