I cannot get to the grub prompt in my ubuntu natty/11.04 VM. I should be able to get to it by hitting 'Esc" like usual, no?

The reason I ask is because I am getting a B(lack)SOD when it's time for gdm to start. So I need to boot to the recovery console and fix it.

Thank you. I'm glad they randomly changed the key used to access grub..

That's a great link, but just to document it here, for Grub2 you now press the SHIFT key early in the boot process to go to the menu. In the past, you pressed Esc during booting but this has been changed.
