SOLVED/GELÖST: Mouse cursor suddenly invisible

Hello everybody,
being completely new to this forum and quite new to virtualbox, I do need some help:
After having installed Virtualbox 4.0.2 PUEL in Ubuntu 10.04 host and Windows 7 as guest, I finally got the USB 2.0 to work including scanner devices etc. Then, at last, I got my Canon Pixma ip 4500 to work properly in the guest Windows 7.
But after that the mouse cursor (wireless mouse) which had worked properly until then has vanished suddenly - though the mouse still influences the screen - but invisibly. And: the host cursor won't move at all until I stop the guest Windows 7 by pressing ALT-F4. Also the (restricting) ctrl-right won't work. Mouse is caught in guest.
2nd question: How to adress my LaserPrinter HP Deskjet 5L using LPT1 ? That doesn't work yet.

VM Virtual Box Extensions installed, Guest Additions installed, VM UserBox and lp Userbox entries exist, which made the printer work, but killed the cursor (!).
Is there anybody who could possibly help? Any ideas?
Thank you

"VM UserBox and lp Userbox entries exist, which made the printer work, but killed the cursor (!)."
  • Make sure that you have not defined a USB filter for the mouse (or the keyboard). These are shared resources and weird things happen if you do.
"2nd question: How to adress my LaserPrinter HP Deskjet 5L using LPT1 ? That doesn't work yet."
  • VirtualBox does not have lpt support so the only way to use it is as a network shared resource, Samba should help with this.

I'll erase the LPT1-Printer, OK.

Thank you for an incredibly fast answer which worked perfectly. You made my day!
