Clicking Guest Audio

I have occasional problems with distorted audio output from Windows guest. Most obvious symptom is "clicks" in the audio.

Pausing and re-starting guest application does not fix problem.

Pausing guest application and then Exit/Save State and Start/Restore State does clear the problem.

Any ideas?

Host: Ubuntu 10.04, VirtualBox 4.0.2
Guest: Windows XP SP3 with Guest Additions
Guest Applications: MediaMonkey, iTunes, etc.

Problem getting more severe. Guest audio occasionaly stops completely. Previous workaround clears symptom.

Note: Problem persists in VB4.0.4 with updated extension pack and guest additions.
